CeMAP courses are the courses a person takes to qualify as a recognised mortgage advisor. CeMAP courses are designed to help both lay people and those already in the financial industry to study for and achieve their CeMAP qualification.
When studying CeMAP courses the students will cover three separate modules. The three modules to be covered are UK Financial Regulation, Mortgages and Assessment of Mortgage Advice Knowledge. At the conclusion of the module the student will sit an exam; this exam requires a score of at least 70% for a successful pass.
There are several options available to students who wish to study CeMAP courses, from study at home courses some of which are internet based to course providers who hold classes which the students attend in person.
It is recommended that the students do some research into the company that is providing the CeMAP courses they are interested in enrolling in as some courses are very short “refresher-style” courses designed for people that are already familiar with the subject material, i.e. those people who are already employed in the financial services or mortgage industries. Many companies however provide courses that are designed to fully educate and inform lay people in all the areas and knowledge they will require to not only pass CeMAP courses but to become effective and successful mortgage advisors.
The providers of CeMAP courses also address the exam process. They understand that many people may have not had to sit a test or exam since they left school, leaving many people stressing over passing these final exams. Most providers of CeMAP courses provide their students with several practice exams to determine the extent of the student’s knowledge and to identify any areas in which the students need further study before sitting the final exam. (These practice exams also offer invaluable practice to let the students familiarise themselves once again with exams and exam techniques, thus minimising the prospect of exam nerves.)
Successful completion of CeMAP courses will allow the students to place the letters CeMAP after their names which will allow potential clients to recognise them as qualified mortgage advice professionals with a qualification that is recognised by the Financial Services Authority. (The Financial Services Authority has enforced the need for CeMAP qualifications since 2004 to ensure the financial industry has adequate and appropriate levels of consumer protection.)
For students who successfully complete CeMAP courses a new, exciting and rewarding career path opens. The CeMAP qualification allows a person to work in established organisations such as lending institutions etc, or even to work for themselves as independent mortgage advisors.
