There are many CeMAP courses and course providers, to train you to pass your CeMAP exams. Two questions you may have now are “What is CeMAP?”, and “Why would I want to take CeMAP courses?”
CeMAP stands for Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice, and once students have successfully completed CeMAP courses and passed the exams they will be recognised by the Financial Services Authority as practicing mortgage advisors. (Successful completion of CeMAP courses also allows them to place the letters CeMAP after their name.)
CeMAP courses and the qualifications they provide are the industry standard to become a mortgage advisor. This is an employment field that is growing rapidly and is currently understaffed. The qualifications bestowed upon students upon the successful completion of CeMAP courses allow them to either be employed by an established organisation or to start their own businesses as qualified and recognised mortgage advisors.
With the current housing boom as well as the numerous mortgage lenders who are all trying to sell their particular product to consumers there is an enormous demand for independent and knowledgeable mortgage advice. Consumers want to ensure that the mortgage product they buy is the best for their individual situations, and as every lender has different products and policies consumers are confused and intimidated by the choices. Consumers have been educated to seek advice from reputable, qualified people – in other words people who have completed CeMAP courses.
If you are wondering if this is the career choice for you, a few things you should ask yourself are would you prefer to be an employee or self employed? Would you like the freedom and opportunity to do either depending upon your personal preference? Are you interested and motivated in becoming successful? Are you motivated to be a high income earner? Finally and most important of all do you think you would enjoy being able to help people to enter the housing market, or help people to reduce their mortgage costs and help them financially? If these things offer some appeal to you I would suggest that you do some further research into CeMAP courses and seriously consider studying for a CeMAP certificate.
Other questions you may be wondering are if you need experience in the mortgage industry or if you need to have high educational standards to participate in CeMAP courses? The answer to both of these questions is no. Reputable CeMAP courses are structured in such a way that the layperson will be taught all they need to know to become a successful and qualified mortgage advisor.
The student’s previous education history is also not an issue as CeMAP courses are generally structured in such a way that the students get ample training in practice exams to assess their weaknesses so these can be addressed. The practice exams are also useful to help students who may not have had to sit an exam since leaving school deal with “exam nerves”.
