Have you heard about CeMAP?

CeMAP is the name of the qualification a person must obtain to become a recognised mortgage advisor. CeMAP stands for Certificate in Mortgage advice and practice. Once a person gains this certificate they are officially recognised by the Financial Services Authority and can practice as a mortgage advisor either alone as an independent or working for an employer.

There is a severe shortage in the industry of qualified personnel and thus there is a huge demand for people who have obtained a CeMAP qualification. The CeMAP qualification opens up many career possibilities for those who hold it, positions are available with traditional lenders such as banks and building societies and other financial institutions, and you can even work for a real-estate agency to advise potential buyers. Many people also take the opportunity once they have qualified to open their own businesses as independent mortgage advisors.
Mortgage advice is a recession proof profession as no matter what state the economy is in people are always seeking mortgages. When the economy is in good shape people will be looking to invest in property and will be seeking to obtain a mortgage; conversely when the economy is in decline people can find meeting their current financial obligations difficult and seek professional advice to refinance and combine their debts into a new mortgage to ensure their repayments are more affordable. Holding a CeMAP certificate will allow you to work as a mortgage advisor to all of these people as well as those people who are looking to purchase a home, as we all know this is a market that always has customers no matter what the economic conditions at the time.

Obtaining a CeMAP qualification is a relatively easy thing to do; there are no prerequisites required you do not have to have studied for a degree or diploma for instance.  There are many courses and course providers that are skilled in training people with no previous experience in the financial industry to successfully sit and pass the CeMAP examinations. The student will study three distinct subjects: UK Financial Regulation, Mortgages and Assessment of Mortgage Advice Knowledge each of these areas of study concludes in a final exam that must be passed with a minimum 70% passing grade. You can think of the final exams in the same manner as a driving exam test, they can be resat by the applicant if they are not passed at the first attempt.

The CeMAP course of study does require the applicant to put in the effort to study and learn all of the course material. As in all endeavours your level of success in passing the course will be directly proportional to the amount of energy and effort you have applied. When you commence a CeMAP training course you will be provided with all of the tools and information you need to pass – your success will then be dependent upon your efforts and commitment to the successful completion of the course.
CeMAP training to obtain your CeMAP qualifications is a necessary step for anyone thinking entering into the financial services industry as a mortgage advisor.
