Cemap - What it is?

Cemap is the certification that is needed in order to advice individuals on mortgages within the United Kingdom.  It is the primary certification program for mortgage advice with over 80% of the industry qualifying under this certification.

If you are looking to give mortgage, advice within the United Kingdom than finding out about the Cemap certification is necessary.  The course covers the following items UK financial regulations, mortgages, and the assessment of mortgage advice knowledge. The Cemap certification is reviewed and updated in order to meet the Financial Services Skills Council requirements also known as the FSSC. It is also acknowledged by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority known as the QCA.

There are no entry requirements for the Cemap certification and it meets a Level 3 qualification. Depending on which study method works best for you it takes about 40-60 hours to cover each module of the program. There are three modules, so total course time is between 120 and 160 hours.

Study materials are provided as additional support to the learning manual. These come in the following forms:

CD Competences Development Tool or CDT
Audio Revision notes - Available for Module 3 only
Specimen Examination Papers

Updates are done annually and are available in July. They usually become active on the exams following the first of September. Remember, you are responsible for making sure that you are using the most recent information and up to date study materials when it comes to these examinations.

The exams consist of two exams, one exam for modules 1 and 2 and a second exam for module 3. The first exam is 100 questions in multiple-choice format and lasts a total of two hours. The second exam consists of 6 case studies with 10 questions apiece and is multiple choice it also lasts 2 hours. These tests are delivered electronically so there is no waiting for your results.

In order to pass with this certification you must at least make a 70% on each of units within the modules, failure to do so will results in the necessity of a re-sit for the examination. Passing the exam entitles the individual to the use of Cemap after their names for professional purposes.

There are no on-site training facilities. The materials are sent to you and you study at your own pace. When you are ready, you simply book the exam time.

Exams cost around £130.00 per module. This includes a 12-month registration, the manual, and the initial examination entry fee. Re-sit exams must be purchased separately.

Registration can be done online; there is even an online payment form to allow for easy completion of every aspect of the registration process, by post, by fax or by phone. Payment does have to be made when you call and payment information should be sent by post or fax at the time of registration.
