A CeFA qualification provides the fundamental qualifications to work within the UK financial industry. It gives the individual the opportunity to work in a vast array of different financial sectors and is viewed as the “backstage pass” to most any money management company in business today.
The first and most obvious field in which to work with a CeFA qualification would be a financial advisor. These individuals essentially educate and advise clients where to put their money in investment grade assets that will yield a positive return on their initial investment (hopefully!). CeFAs can be full time equity investors/traders following the UK stock market as well as the global stock markets such as China, Japan, Brazil, Germany, and the USA depending upon their investment strategy. Another type could be a secured income CeFA that specializes in fixed rate income for retirees seeking wealth protection and a steady flow of income each month. The most balanced of the CeFA would be the retirement professionals who work with clients ranging from early 20s to 65 and over. Therefore, a broad range of income building sectors are available for the customization of one's career.
A more traditional job after a CeFA qualification could be your stereotypical bank manager who runs the day to day operations at your local bank. These managers are involved in normal daily transactions, but also makes sure all governmental regulations are followed and business flows smoothly without any hiccups. More importantly, he makes critical decisions upon where to invest the funds held by the bank to secure the interest generating accounts held by the customer in their savings, checking, or bank ensured – high yield savings assets established by the bank itself.
A CeFA qualification prepares you for a high value clients might participate in wealth management or asset management companies designed to protect and grow a high net worth client's assets while limiting risk as much as possible. These managers are devoting copious amounts of time to each individual's financial goals and therefore make a larger commission based on advisory fees, or based off of commissions of the net profits. Yet, this type of investing is not for the faint of heart as it is a high stakes, real life game that involves large volumes of cash controlled by people who aren't accustomed to losing money, so please take this into consideration.
A CeFA qualification is only the start, however. A CeMAP advisor is slightly different in that he/she is a certified mortgage advisor and works primarily in real estate ventures and entails further study. This can be as traditional as your first home purchase, but it can also deal with real estate investors looking to grow wealth by buying and holding real estate. Even though a CeMAP might not directly build your investment portfolio through equities or secured income assets, he/she will build your real estate portfolio substantially if you have the financial means to do so.
